Mother Nature did Florida State a solid on Wednesday afternoon. Rain forced the final contest of a 2-game set with Florida Gulf Coast to be called after five innings.

With FSU ahead 3-2, it goes down as an official game and a victory for the Seminoles. Will Zirzow got his first career start for Florida State, but it was Grant Stewart who earned his first career victory.

The Good: In five innings of baseball, Florida State left just two men on base. FSU had six different players have a hit. Getting two runs in the fourth inning also amounted to a second straight win in its last at-bat for FSU.

The Bad: For the second straight day, Taylor Walls committed an error at shortstop. This time around however, it didn’t result in an unearned run.

The Ugly: The weather after the fifth inning was absolutely dreadful. To get a full nine innings in, the best option might have been to move the start time up.

Studs of the Game: Grant Stewart struck out four batters and allowed just one hit and one walk in two shutout innings to pick up his first career win. At the plate, Cal Raleigh’s RBI triple tied the game in the fourth before he came around to score the game-winning run. For FGCU, Julio Gonzalez was 3-for-3 with a run scored. Nick Rivera drove in both Florida Gulf Coast runs.

Duds of the Game: Jake Smith and Eli Lovell were each 0-for-2 with a pair of strikeouts for the Eagles. Rhett Aplin was 0-for-2 with a strikeout for FSU in the win.
