Like the Florida State men on Sunday, FSU’s women’s basketball team was given a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament when brackets were unveiled Monday.
While the FSU men were given a favorable draw with games being played in Orlando, the women’s team won’t have to leave home until the Sweet 16. The third-seeded Seminoles will host Western Illinois, the No. 14 seed and Summit League champion, at 7:30 p.m. EST on Friday in a contest that will air on ESPN2. The winner moves on to face either No. 6 seed Missouri or 11th-seed South Florida.
For the season, FSU is 25-6 and ranked 10th in the country, but has lost four of its last six games. Western Illinois is 26-6 this season.
Between the Lines
FSU men’s golf finished second to Lipscomb at the Southern Intercollegiate in Athens, Georgia.
On the Agenda
FSU softball will host Florida Gulf Coast. The FSU baseball team will travel to take on Florida in a contest that airs on the SEC Network at 6:30 p.m. EST.
News and Notes
After consecutive losses, FSU beach volleyball fell two spots to No. 4 in the AVCA Poll.
FSU made the top 12 for 4-star safety Isheem Young. A 5-11, 200-pound prospect from Philadelphia, Young is the No. 62 overall player for 2018, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.
FSU’s Aziz Dougas was named ACC men’s Tennis Player of the Week.
Florida scored a run in the seventh inning to top FSU in Gainesville on Tuesday night, 1-0.
