The Daily Nole — March 13, 2017: FSU Women to Learn NCAA Fate

It’s Monday, Florida State fans. For those of you returning to work, we feel your pain, but we’ll keep you up on the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

On Sunday, it was Florida State’s men’s basketball’s turn to learn its NCAA Tournament fate. On Monday night, the FSU women will get to do likewise.

Once thought to be in the running for a No. 1 seed, the FSU women floundered down the stretch, losing four of their final six games. The good news for FSU is that it will likely still earn a top 4 seed and get to host the first two rounds.

ESPN’s Charlie Creme currently has the Seminoles penciled in as a No. 3 seed in the Stockton Region against 14th-seeded Central Arkansas. FSU is currently 25-6 for the season. The Women’s Selection Show begins at 7 p.m. EST on ESPN.

Between the Lines

FSU men’s golf finished in second place at the Seminole Invitational. FSU’s women’s tennis team lost to Pennsylvania in Tampa, 5-2. FSU beach volleyball dropped 3-2 matches to Pepperdine and UCLA.

On the Agenda

The FSU men’s golf will participate in the Southern Intercollegiate in Athens, Georgia.

News and Notes

Florida State baseball remained No. 2 in the Baseball America Poll. FSU now tops the D1Baseball.com Poll. The Seminoles moved up two spots to No. 6 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll. FSU fell a spot to No. 4 in the NCBWA Poll.

ACC players of the week will be announced for various sports on Monday.

The FSU women are No. 10 in the final AP Poll.

Florida State fell one spot in the USA Today Coaches Poll to No. 18. FSU held firm at 16th in the AP Poll.

The FSU women earned a No. 3 seed in the Stockton Region and will open the NCAA Tournament on Friday against Western Illinois.
