The Daily Nole — March 12, 2017: FSU to Learn NCAA Fate

Lead Story

Florida State will be bound for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in five years once the brackets are unveiled. The question is what seed the Seminoles will earn, where they’ll go and who they’ll play.

In brackets released Sunday, both ESPN’s Joe Lunardi and CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm have the Seminoles bound for Orlando. Lunardi pits No. 4 seed FSU against 13th-seeded East Tennessee State, the Southern Conference champions, in the East Region. Palm has FSU as a No. 3 seed, facing No. 14 seed and Atlantic Sun champion Florida Gulf Coast in the Midwest Region.

FSU is 25-8 for the season. The brackets will be unveiled at 5:30 p.m. EST on CBS.

Between the Lines

After two rounds at the Seminole Intercollegiate, FSU men’s golf remains in second place, two strokes back of leader Penn State. FSU beach volleyball beat Long Beach State 4-1 and Cal Poly 5-0 on Saturday. FSU baseball outscored Boston College 24-1 on Saturday to sweep a doubleheader. FSU softball completed the sweep of Virginia Tech with a 5-2 victory.

On the Agenda

FSU men’s golf wraps up the Seminole Intercollegiate. The women’s tennis team will take on Pennsylvania in Tampa. The FSU beach volleyball will face both Pepperdine and UCLA out in California at Manhattan Beach.

News and Notes

FSU’s Montel Nevers has been named a first-team All-American for the triple jump.

FSU sophomore Andrew Karp is expected to start Tuesday’s contest against Florida.

Florida State opens the NCAA Tournament on Thursday in Orlando against Florida Gulf Coast.
