The Daily Nole — March 11, 2017: FSU Softball Sweeps Doubleheader at Hokies

It’s Saturday, Florida State fans. Despite FSU hoops not playing for the ACC Championship, it should be a busy one. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State won two softball games in one day on Friday and did so with relative ease.

In Blacksburg against Virginia Tech, FSU won a pair of 5-inning contests, 12-3 and 13-2. Meghan King started both games for FSU, but Jessica Burroughs worked three innings to get the win in the second.

Alex Powers went 3-for-3 with an RBI and four runs scored in the first game while Cali Harrod finished with three RBIs. The Seminoles exploded with 11 first inning runs in the second game. Jessica Warren and Sydney Broderick each homered in the second contest. Warren and Dani Morgan each finished with three hits.

For the season, FSU improved to 21-1-1. The Seminoles will go for the sweep of the Hokies at 12 p.m. EST on Saturday in a contest that airs on ACC Network Extra.

Between the Lines

In addition to softball, the FSU men’s golf team currently sits in second place at the Seminole Intercollegiate, one stroke back of leader Penn State. The FSU women’s tennis team lost to Illinois 4-0 while the men beat Florida, 4-2. FSU track and field competed in the NCAA Indoor Championships. The FSU baseball team dropped its ACC opener to Boston College, 8-5. The FSU men’s basketball team fell to Notre Dame in the ACC Tournament semifinals, 77-73.

On the Agenda

In addition to softball, FSU beach volleyball will play Long Beach State and Cal Poly in Manhattan Beach, California. FSU men’s golf will play the second round of the Seminole Intercollegiate. The FSU baseball team will host Boston College in a doubleheader. The first game begins at 1 p.m. EST with the second one to follow 45 minutes after its completion. Both contests will air on ACC Network Extra.

FSU outfielder Jackson Lueck is missing this weekend’s series with Boston College due to shin splints, according to 247Sports.

Florida State outscored Boston College 24-1 on Saturday to sweep a doubleheader.
