The Daily Nole — March 10, 2017: FSU Faces Notre Dame in ACC Semis

It’s Friday, Florida State fans. For those of you finishing up your work week, we’ll try to get you through it. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State will look to advance to the ACC Tournament championship for the third time in its history on Friday night as the Seminoles take on Notre Dame.

No. 2 seed FSU advanced with a 74-68 victory over Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals on Thursday night behind 17 points from Dwayne Bacon and an 18-1 second half run. Third-seeded Notre Dame advanced to the semifinals with a 71-58 win over Virginia.

This will be the third match-up between the schools this season with each team winning at home previously. The Seminoles won 83-80 in Tallahassee on Jan. 18 behind 23 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks from Jonathan Isaac. Notre Dame returned the favor in South Bend on Feb. 11, winning 84-72 behind a career-high 33 points from Bonzie Colson.

Friday’s contest will tip off 30 minutes after the first ACC semifinal between North Carolina and Duke. That should be somewhere between 9:30 and 10 p.m. EST. The game will air on ESPN.

Between the Lines

FSU defeated Virginia Tech in the ACC Tournament quarterfinal on Thursday, 74-68.

On the Agenda

Aside from the ACC Tournament, the FSU track and field team will compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas. FSU men’s golf will host the Seminole Intercollegiate. The FSU softball team will visit Virginia Tech for a doubleheader. The FSU women’s tennis team will host Illinois. The men’s team will take on Florida at Lake Nona, beginning at 6 p.m. in a match that airs on ESPN3. The FSU baseball team opens a 3-game set against Boston College which also begins at 6 p.m. and will air on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

FSU is a 2.5-point favorite for Friday’s game with Notre Dame.

Florida State will play the final two games against Boston College on Saturday. The series was originally scheduled to wrap up on Sunday.

Notre Dame defeated Florida State in the ACC Tournament semifinals on Friday night, 77-73.

Florida State dropped its ACC opener to Boston College on Friday night, 8-5.
