It’s Thursday, Florida State fans and that means the Seminoles will open the ACC Tournament. Before you get around to enjoying that, get the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

No. 2 seed Florida State will finally get to play in Brooklyn at the ACC Tournament after two days of watching others. The Seminoles will open the tournament in a quarterfinal Thursday night against seventh-seeded Virginia Tech.

The Hokies advanced Wednesday with a 99-90 victory over Wake Forest and will look to eliminate FSU for a second straight season in the ACC Tournament. Virginia Tech ousted FSU last season, 96-85.

Virginia Tech has five players who average in double-figures scoring, led by Zach LeDay. Chris Clarke however, has missed the last seven games. The Hokies will have Seth Allen ready to go on Thursday. Traditionally an FSU killer, Allen did not play in the January contest in Tallahassee, which FSU won 93-78.

Florida State is led by the 3-headed monster of Dwayne Bacon, Jonathan Isaac and Xavier Rathan-Mayes. FSU will look to advance to the ACC semifinals for the first time since winning the conference tournament in 2012. The contest begins at 7 p.m. EST and airs on ESPN.

Between the Lines

FSU softball swept a doubleheader against North Florida, winning 8-0 and 3-0 on Wednesday. FSU baseball completed a mini sweep of UCF with a 5-0 victory on Wednesday.

On the Agenda

The ACC Tournament is the only scheduled FSU athletic event.

News and Notes

5-star defensive tackle Taron Vincent narrowed his choices of schools down to Florida State and Ohio State.

Due to weather, FSU softball will begin its Friday contest with Virginia Tech early at 1 p.m. EST and try to complete the 3-game series before Saturday evening.

Florida State used an 18-1 second half run to beat Virginia Tech in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday night.

4-star Tampa athlete Jermaine Eskridge announced his top 7 on Thursday and FSU made the cut.
