The Daily Nole — March 6, 2017: Spring Practice Starts for FSU

It’s Monday, Florida State fans. For those of you having to return to work, we feel for you, but we’ll do our best to get you through it. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

The wait for Florida State football is finally over…sort of.

FSU begins spring practice on Monday and there are a number of position battles to watch. Head coach Jimbo Fisher will address the media at 1 p.m. EST.

For the Seminoles this spring, there will also be seven early enrollees on campus, including running back Cam Akers and defensive end Joshua Kaindoh. The spring will conclude with the Garnet and Gold game on April 8.

Between the Lines

FSU beach volleyball played in the Stetson Pairs Tournament on Sunday. The FSU women’s tennis team beat N.C. State 5-2 while the men lost by the same score to Georgia Tech. FSU softball completed the sweep of Georgia Tech 8-0 behind a 1-hit shutout from Jessica Burroughs. FSU baseball completed the sweep of Oakland with a 14-6 win.

On the Agenda

The FSU diving team will be in Alabama for the NCAA Zone B Qualifier.

News and Notes

The ACC players of the week for various sports will be announced on Monday.

Florida State fell one spot to No. 16 in the AP Poll on Monday. The Seminoles remained 17th in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Florida State remained No. 2 in this week’s Baseball America Poll and No. 3 in the D1Baseball.com Poll. FSU moved up two spots to No. 8 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll and to No. 3 in the NCBWA Poll.

Five FSU players will miss the spring with injuries, including three starters.

Dameyune Craig has returned to Florida State as a quality control coach.

For the second week in a row, Florida State lefty Tyler Holton is the ACC Pitcher of the Week.

Florida State’s Shakayla Thomas has been named the ACC’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Year by the conference’s coaches.

The FSU beach volleyball team ranks second behind USC in the AVCA Poll.
