Former Florida State starting guard Wilson Bell will likely transfer from the school, according to a source close to the program.

Set to be a redshirt senior in 2017, Bell is scheduled to earn his degree during the spring semester and will be eligible to play elsewhere immediately. Bell had not been participating in offseason conditioning drills, per a source, and is not expected to report Monday for the start of spring practice.

A native of Mobile, Alabama, Bell started every game at right guard as a redshirt sophomore in 2015. After starting early in the season in 2016, Bell was eventually lapped by the younger Landon Dickerson.

Dickerson suffered a season-ending knee injury at the turn of November and Bell started the last four regular season games for FSU. Bell totaled five starts in 2016, but did not start in FSU’s 33-32 Orange Bowl victory over Michigan.

Reports surfaced prior to the contest that Bell had been arrested for failing to appear in a hit-and-run case. Bell did appear in the Orange Bowl contest, but Cole Minshew made the start at right guard. It is not known whether the arrest played any factor.

The subtraction of Bell and Ryan Hoefeld, who left the program earlier this offseason, would give FSU 89 scholarship players. That’s four over the limit of 85.

Bell is still listed on the roster on the official FSU athletic site. The program has yet to confirm that Bell will transfer.
