The Daily Nole — March 4, 2017: Cook, Stevenson Participate at NFL Combine

It’s a busy Saturday, Florida State fans. Before you sit back and watch a day full of FSU action, keep it here for the latest. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Running back Dalvin Cook and fullback Freddie Stevenson spent the last three seasons sharing a backfield for Florida State. On Friday at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, the two showed off their skills.

Cook ran a 4.49-second 40-yard dash and bench pressed 225 pounds 22 times. Stevenson put up the 225 pounds 24 times, which was the second-most among backs behind only Oklahoma’s Samaje Perine, who did 30. Stevenson ran a 4.75 in the 40-yard dash.

Tackle Roderick Johnson was in Indianapolis on Friday, but did not participate in drills. Quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends will work out on Saturday. For FSU, that means receivers Travis Rudolph, Jesus Wilson and Kermit Whitfield.

Between the Lines

FSU women’s tennis was defeated by Wake Forest on Friday, 4-2. FSU women’s hoops fell to Miami in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament, 56-54. FSU baseball rallied from seven runs down to beat Oakland, 18-10. FSU softball blanked Georgia Tech to open ACC play, 4-0.

On the Agenda

FSU track and field will participate in the Florida A&M relays. The FSU beach volleyball team kicks off the year with matches against LSU and Stetson in DeLand. FSU baseball and FSU softball will continue their series with Oakland and Georgia Tech respectively. The FSU baseball game will air on ACC Network Extra at 1 p.m. EST. The FSU men’s basketball team wraps up the regular season against Miami. That game begins at 4 p.m. EST and will be televised on the ACC Network.

FSU has offered a scholarship to 2019 Oklahoma pledge and 4-star wide receiver Arjei Henderson.

Florida State completed its first perfect home slate in 41 years with a 66-57 win over Miami on Saturday.

FSU starting pitcher Tyler Holton struck out 13 batters in a 12-1 win over Oakland on Saturday.
