The Daily Nole — March 1, 2017: FSU Women’s Golf Wins The Dickinson

Happy hump day, Florida State fans. We’ll do our best to bring you the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State’s women’s golf team not only won The Dickinson at The Woodlands, Texas, but it did so by a wide margin in a 2-day tournament that ended on Tuesday.

FSU led after all three rounds and wound up winning the match by 24 strokes. The Seminoles shot -21 and were the only one of 16 teams to shoot under par. The 24-stroke victory tied a school-record. Akron finished second at +3.

Not only did FSU win as a team, but Morgane Metraux had the highest individual score for the 2-day tournament at -14. FSU’s next tournament will come in the Notre Dame Clover Cup in Mesas, Arizona from March 17-19.

Between the Lines

In addition to women’s golf, the men finished 10th out of 15 teams at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate. FSU baseball scored three runs in the eighth inning to beat Jacksonville, 6-5. FSU’s men’s basketball team fell at Duke, 75-70.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Wednesday.

News and Notes

The ACC women’s basketball tournament gets underway on Wednesday.

FSU women forward Chatrice White has been named Sixth Player of the Year by the ACC. FSU’s Shakayla Thomas won the honor in each of the previous two seasons.

FSU’s Trent Forrest has been named to the ACC’s All-Academic team.
