Happy Friday, Florida State fans and when it comes to FSU athletics, it looks to be a big one. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State’s men’s basketball team is in the midst of an outstanding season and as a result, its leading scorer is alive for two major awards.

Sophomore guard Dwayne Bacon has been named a finalist for both the Wooden and Naismith College Player of the Year Awards, which annually go to the nation’s best player. Bacon is averaging nearly 18 points per game for the Seminoles and is a big reason why FSU is ranked in the top 15.

Last week, Bacon was named a finalist for the Julius Erving Award, which goes to the nation’s top small forward. No FSU player has ever won either honor.

Between the Lines

FSU women’s hoops blasted Wake Forest on Thursday night, 102-60. Six players scored in double-figures for FSU, led by Shakayla Thomas’ 23 points. Brittany Brown had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s golf team will play in the Florida State Match-Up in Tallahassee. The track and field teams will be in Arkansas for the Tyson Invitational and in Boston for the David Hemery Invitational. FSU softball will open the season with contests against Lipscomb and Furman.

News and Notes

FSU has offered a scholarship to 2018 defensive end Kayode Oladele from Miami. Oladele is a 3-star prospect.

FSU baseball freshman infielder Drew Mendonza is out 4-8 weeks with a broken thumb, per a release.
