It’s the weekend, Florida State fans. Before you settle in and enjoy the day or get prepared to watch the Super Bowl on Sunday, catch up with the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State defensive tackles coach Odell Haggins has been named the ACC Recruiter of the Year by 247Sports. The proclamation was made just two days after National Signing Day.

Haggins has quietly been a steady force on the recruiting trail for some time, helping FSU win battles in areas like Polk County that were once owned by rival Florida. Haggins has also had success, going into the state of Virginia and pulling out big time prospects like 5-star running back Khalan Laborn and last year, cornerback Levonta Taylor.

Other members of this year’s class that Haggins was the primary recruiter for include 4-star defensive tackle Ja’len Parks, 4-star wide receiver D.J. Matthews and 5-star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson, who pledged his services on Wednesday. A former defensive lineman for the Seminoles, Haggins in the longest tenured coach on the FSU staff, having served as an assistant since 1994 and a defensive line coach since 1996.

Between the Lines

FSU’s women’s tennis team collected 4-0 victories over both North Florida and Florida Gulf Coast on Friday. The FSU swimming and diving teams competed in the Carolina College Invite. FSU’s track and field team competed in the Virginia Tech Doc Hale Elite Meet.

On the Agenda
