It’s Super Sunday, Florida State fans. Before you get ready to watch the big game, keep it here as we bring you the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

The biggest spectacle in sports takes place on Sunday as the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons do battle in Super Bowl LI for pro football supremacy. The rosters will feature two former FSU stars.

For the Atlanta Falcons, that guy is running back Devonta Freeman. Now in his third year, Freeman has been an all-around force to be reckoned with in the Atlanta offense. After making the Pro Bowl last season — his second year in the league — Freeman has more than 1,500 yards from scrimmage this season and 13 total touchdowns.

For former FSU All-American guard Tre’ Jackson, injuries have kept him from helping out the Patriots. Jackson played in 13 games and started nine last season, but has not appeared in a game this year. The Super Bowl begins at 6:30 p.m. EST on FOX.

Between the Lines

The FSU swimming and diving teams wrapped up the Carolina College Invite on Saturday.

On the Agenda

FSU’s men’s basketball team will host Clemson at 12:30 p.m. EST. The contest airs on ESPNU.

News and Notes

FSU remains a No. 2 seed in CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm’s bracketology.

Behind 29 points from Dwayne Bacon, No. 15 Florida State notched its largest margin of victory ever in ACC play, beating Clemson 109-61.

FSU’s football program has honored Johnny Taylor, a Florida high school running back who died in a car crash last June.
