The Daily Nole — Feb. 3, 2017: FSU’s Bacon Named Finalist for Erving Award

It’s Friday, Florida State fans. For those of you wrapping up your work week, we’ll keep you up on the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State sophomore Dwayne Bacon has been named one of 10 finalists for the Julius Erving Award, which annually goes to the nation’s top small forward.

For a second straight season, Bacon is leading FSU in scoring, averaging 17.1 points per game. Bacon’s field goal percentage hasn’t increased much from last season, but the sophomore has improved immensely as a 3-point shooter.

Bacon was one of four ACC players selected as finalists along with Duke’s Jayson Tatum, North Carolina’s Justin Jackson and Clemson’s Jaron Blossomgame. The winner of the award will be announced on April 7.

Between the Lines

The FSU’s women’s basketball team throttled Boston College on Thursday night, 85-53. FSU’s Shakayla Thomas led all scorers with 20 points.

On the Agenda

FSU’s track and field teams will be in Blacksburg for the Virginia Tech Doc Hale Elite Meet. The swimming and diving team will be in Chapel Hill for the Carolina College Invite. The FSU women’s tennis team will host North Florida and Florida Gulf Coast.
