It’s Thursday, Florida State. While it probably won’t be as riveting as Wednesday was, we’ll keep you up on the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State closed its 2017 recruiting class with three prospects on National Signing Day. The Seminoles missed on 4-star linebacker Levi Jones and 4-star wide receiver Henry Ruggs III, but closed the day with a bang.

The day ended with FSU receiving the commitment of 5-star Texas defensive tackle Marvin Wilson. Wilson chose the Seminoles over LSU and many others. FSU was also able to reel in 4-star linebacker Leonard Warner and 3-star running back Deonte Sheffield on Wednesday to finish with 24 total commitments.

Florida State finishes with the No. 6 overall class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Alabama took home the top class, followed by Ohio State, Georgia, USC and Michigan. Wilson was the fourth 5-star prospect to commit to FSU, joining running backs Cam Akers and Khalan Laborn as well as defensive end Joshua Kaindoh. Only Alabama and Ohio State had more.

Between the Lines

FSU’s men’s basketball team used a big second half to run past Miami on Wednesday night in Coral Gables, 75-57.

On the Agenda

The FSU women will visit Boston College on Thursday night. The contest starts at 7 p.m. EST and airs on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

FSU softball pitcher Jessica Burroughs and infielders Alex Powers and Jessica Warren have all been named to the USA Softball Player of the Year watch list.

FSU guard Dwayne Bacon is among 10 finalists for the Julius Erving Award, which annually goes to the nation’s top small forward.
