It’s Monday, Florida State fans. Unfortunately for some of us, that means back to the old grind. With National Signing Day just two days away however, we’ll do our best to keep you in the loop on the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.
Lead Story
After spending most of his professional playing career abroad, a former Florida State forward is finally getting his chance in the NBA and his team seems to be reaping the benefits.
After an 11-30 start to the season, the Miami Heat are remarkably 7-0 since adding forward Okaro White. In seven games, White is averaging just 4.2 points and three rebounds per game in nearly 18 minutes, but has been efficient from the field, shooting 53 percent.
A 6-8 forward from Clearwater, White played for the Seminoles from 2010-14 and is the school’s all-time leader in games played. White was a member of two NCAA Tournament teams and averaged more than 10 points per game for his career. White was the MVP of a league in Greece last season.
Between the Lines
Both the FSU men and women’s tennis team won ITA Kickoff consolation matches by scores of 4-1. The women defeated Harvard while the men topped Texas Tech.
On the Agenda
The FSU women’s golf team will compete in the Florida Challenge in Lecanto.
News and Notes
After back-to-back losses, Florida State fell to No. 15 in the men’s basketball AP Poll. FSU fell eight spots to 16th in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
The FSU women are ranked sixth in the AP Poll.
Florida State infielders Dylan Busby and Taylor Walls were each named preseason All-Americans by Baseball America.
