A pair of Florida State seniors hoping to be selected in April’s NFL Draft tried to impress scouts at college all-star games on Saturday. Quarterback Sean Maguire competed in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl while wide receiver Kermit Whitfield played in the East-West Shrine Game.
Out in Los Angeles, Maguire went 9-for-21 passing for 96 yards for the American Team in a 27-7 loss to the National Team. Maguire was able to break up the shutout with a late touchdown pass to New Mexico running back Teriyon Gipson.
At the East-West Shrine Game in St. Petersburg, Whitfield finished with three catches for 31 yards for the East in a 10-3 loss to the West while also returning a couple of punts. Whitfield had impressed in practices earlier in the week.
How much either Maguire or Whitfield helped their draft stock on Saturday remains to be seen. If nothing else, the two had the chance to wear an FSU helmet one last time.
Between the Lines
FSU’s swimming and diving team lost at Alabama on Saturday. FSU’s men’s basketball team defeated No. 12 Louisville, 73-68.
On the Agenda
Florida State’s men’s tennis team will host Georgia Southern. The FSU women’s basketball team will visit Virginia Tech at noon EST in a contest that airs on ACC Network Extra.
News and Notes
Former FSU forward Okaro White recorded three rebounds and a steal in 19 minutes for the Miami Heat in his second career NBA game. White has yet to score his first NBA points.
