The Daily Nole — Jan. 23, 2017: FSU Women Rout Virginia Tech

Unfortunately, it’s Monday. For you Florida State fans, we’ll do our best to bring you the latest in FSU athletics by updating the news and notes section throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State’s women’s basketball team picked up its sixth straight win and third straight rout on Sunday afternoon with an 82-54 win over Virginia Tech.

The seventh-ranked Seminoles were led by Leticia Romero, who finished with 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Shakayla Thomas added 17 points while Brittany Brown chipped in with 13 points and seven rebounds. Chatrice White scored 11 in the win. Chanette Hicks scored 18 points to lead the Hokies.

FSU led 33-22 at the break, but that lead ballooned to 24 by the end of the third quarter. With the win, FSU improves to 19-2 and 7-1 in ACC play. The Seminoles will be back in action again on Thursday at Georgia Tech.

Between the Lines

In addition to the basketball game, the FSU men’s tennis team swept Georgia Southern, 7-0.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Monday.

News and Notes

Florida State moved up four spots in each of the men’s basketball polls. The Seminoles are now sixth in the AP Poll and eighth in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

The FSU women moved up one spot to sixth.

Florida State forward Jonathan Isaac was named the ACC Freshman of the Week for his efforts in wins over Notre Dame and Louisville.

Isaac was also named NCAA Player of the Week.

FSU will start the season ranked second in the Baseball America Poll.

4-star safety Hamsah Nasirildeen flipped his commitment from South Carolina to FSU late Sunday night. The Seminoles now have the No. 5 overall class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.

FSU running back Dalvin Cook will participate in the 2017 State Farm All-Star Football Challenge in Dallas.
