Lead Story

Syracuse may have played for the national championship last season, but on Thursday, it was no match for the Florida State women. FSU raced to a 25-point first half lead before cruising to an easy 77-58 victory.

Four different players scored in double-figures for FSU, led by Shakayla Thomas’ 17 points. Leticia Romero, Imani Wright and Ivey Slaughter scored 12, 11 and 10 respectively in the victory as FSU shot 54 percent and forced 21 turnovers. Alexis Peterson scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Orange in the loss.

With the victory, the Seminoles improve to 18-2 and a league-best 6-1 in ACC play. FSU will be in action again on Sunday at Virginia Tech.

Between the Lines

FSU’s women’s basketball victory was the only event scheduled for Thursday.

On the Agenda

FSU’s men’s tennis team will host Florida Gulf Coast and Florida A&M on Friday. The track and field team will be in Iowa City for the Hawkeye Classic.

News and Notes

FSU safety Derwin James looks to have finally recovered from a knee injury that limited his 2016 season to two games.
