The Daily Nole — Jan. 12, 2017: FSU Hoops’ Title Odds Change

FSU athletics

It’s Thursday, Florida State fans, which means we’re only two days away from yet another big showdown on the hardwood as FSU travels to face North Carolina. We’ll keep you up to the date on the latest in FSU athletics by updating the news and notes section throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State’s men’s basketball team is the talk of the town recently in Tallahassee and for good reason. FSU is 16-1, ranked in the top 10 and 4-0 in ACC play. The Seminoles took down No. 7 Duke on Tuesday night, 88-72.

Over the last couple weeks, FSU has started to turn heads as a contender, including with the odds-makers. Following Tuesday’s victory over Duke, FSU is now listed at 25-to-1 to win the national championship, according to Sportsbook.ag. On Dec. 30, FSU was listed at 90-to-1. After beating Virginia on Dec. 31, the Seminoles’ odds went to 50-to-1.

After winning on the road against Virginia and handily beating Duke on Tuesday, FSU doesn’t really need to make any further statements to create believers. It can do just that on Saturday however, against North Carolina.

Between the Lines

There were no FSU athletic events scheduled for Wednesday.

On the Agenda

Florida State’s women’s basketball team will host Louisville at 7 p.m. EST in a top-10 match-up. The contest will air on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

FSU assistant strength and conditioning coach Mark Hocke will become the strength and conditioning coach at Texas A&M.

The American Football Coaches Association has made proposals for getting rid of Friday night games and adding an extra assistant.

FSU will start No. 3 in Perfect Game’s preseason baseball poll.

FSU women’s basketball forward and former 5-star prospect, Jasmine Walker, is no longer with the team.
