The Daily Nole — Jan. 11, 2017: Grayson Allen Strikes Again

It’s hump day, Florida State fans. After a big Tuesday, there’s a chance things could quiet a bit as it relates to FSU athletics. We’ll update the news and notes section as the day goes on.

Lead Story

Duke guard Grayson Allen seemed to be up to his old tricks Tuesday night during an 88-72 loss to Florida State. With about six minutes remaining in the game, Allen was racing toward the FSU sideline for a loose ball. Allen successfully saved the ball before it went out of bounds, but in midair, appeared to push FSU assistant Dennis Gates.

Play was not stopped nor was anything called, but this is nothing new for Allen. Allen served a 1-game suspension for kicking an Elon player earlier this season. Last season, Allen got away with a trip of FSU’s Xavier Rathan-Mayes and was called for a flagrant foul for a similar incident against Louisville’s Ray Spalding. Gates called it a good hustle play.

With the exception of the 1-game suspension, punishment for Allen has been minimal. Let’s see if the latest incident finally prompts the ACC to get involved.

Between the Lines

No. 9 Florida State defeated No. 7 Duke on Tuesday night, 88-72.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Wednesday.

News and Notes

FSU cornerback Kyle Meyers said he will switch to No. 21 next year. That number is held by specialist Logan Tyler.
