It’s Tuesday, everyone. For you Florida State fans who stayed up late watching football, it’s time to recharge because there’s a big basketball game scheduled for Tuesday night. We’ll keep you up to date on the latest in FSU athletics by updating the news and notes section throughout the day.

Lead Story

What some are calling a banner football season for the ACC culminated in a national championship for Clemson on Monday night in Tampa.

Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson’s 2-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Renfrow with one second remaining lifted the Tigers to a 35-31 victory over No. 1 Alabama. Watson finished with 420 yards passing and four total touchdowns in the victory.

With the win, Clemson claims its first national championship since 1981 and becomes the first ACC school other than Florida State to win a national title since Georgia Tech in 1990. It also caps an FBS-best 9-3 bowl season for the conference.

FSU will face both of the teams to play in the national championship in 2017, beginning with Alabama in Atlanta to open the season. The Seminoles will also visit Clemson.

Between the Lines

There were no FSU athletic events scheduled for Monday.

On the Agenda

FSU’s ninth-ranked men’s basketball team will host Duke at 8 p.m. EST on Tuesday night. The contest will air on the ACC Network.
