It’s Monday, Florida State fans. For those of you starting your work week, we’ll try to keep you up to date on the latest in FSU athletics. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Wide receiver D.J. Matthews will not be enrolling early at Florida State, according to reports. A 4-star wide receiver commitment from Jacksonville, Matthews was set to arrive in Tallahassee this week.

According to reports, Matthews narrowly missed the necessary qualifications to enroll early. On Facebook however, Matthews’ father, Dakarai Matthews, said that Matthews’ decision not to enroll early was because he wanted to play one more year of basketball for Trinity Christian Academy.

Matthews is currently listed by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 48 overall prospect for 2017 and No. 7 receiver. Matthews showed off some of his skills at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio over the weekend with a 76-yard touchdown reception. Seven other FSU commits are expected to enroll early.

Between the Lines

Florida State’s women’s basketball team handed Duke a 69-45 defeat on Sunday in Tallahassee. Shakayla Thomas led the Seminoles with 22 points and eight rebounds.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Monday.

News and Notes

Florida State rose three spots to No. 9 in the latest AP Poll men’s basketball poll. It’s FSU’s highest ranking since February 1993. FSU climbed three spots to No. 10 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Florida State’s women’s basketball team fell one spot to No. 7 in the AP Poll.

FSU defensive end Brian Burns was named a Freshman All-American by FWAA.

FSU cornerback Marcus Lewis underwent hip surgery this offseason.

Duke will be without starting forward Amile Jefferson for Tuesday’s game at Florida State.

FSU baseball will hold its fan day on Feb. 11.

Clemson will look to become the first ACC team other than Florida State to win a football national championship since 1990 on Monday night as the Tigers face Alabama in Tampa. The Crimson Tide beat Clemson for last season’s national championship, 45-40.
