Lead Story

The East defeated the West in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl played in San Antonio on Saturday and a pair of Florida State commitments were a big reason why.

Both running back Cam Akers and wide receiver D.J. Matthews found the end zone for the East in a 27-17 victory. Akers rushed for 38 yards and a touchdown on six carries while also finishing with 12 yards receiving. Matthews hauled in a 76-yard touchdown pass, outrunning defenders down the left sidelines. Matthews also had a long kickoff return. Ja’len Parks, a defensive tackle, also had two tackles.

Akers and Matthews are members of an FSU recruiting class that currently ranks fifth nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Both are enrolling early and will begin classes at FSU this week.

Between the Lines

Five FSU players scored in double-figures for the 12th-ranked men’s basketball team in a 93-78 win over No. 21 Virginia Tech on Saturday.

On the Agenda

FSU’s women’s basketball team will host Duke at 3 p.m. EST. The contest will air on ACC Network Extra.
