Lead Story

5-star running back and Florida State commit Cam Akers was named U.S. Army Player of the Year during a ceremony on Friday in San Antonio. The U.S. Army All-American Bowl will start at 1 p.m. EST on Saturday.

As for Akers, he is currently the No. 4 overall prospect for 2017, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. A quarterback this past season, Akers led Clinton High School to a Mississippi state championship, accounting for more than 5,000 total yards and 65 total touchdowns.

Akers committed to FSU last month, choosing the Seminoles over Ole Miss and several other schools. Akers is an early enrollee and expected to compete for playing time as early as next season.

On the Agenda

The 12th-ranked FSU men’s basketball team will host No. 21 Virginia Tech at 2 p.m. EST. The contest will air on the ACC Network.

News and Notes

FSU baseball shortstop Taylor Walls and first baseman Dylan Busby each made Baseball America’s list of top 100 prospects for 2017.

Terance Mann scored a career-high 22 points as No. 12 FSU defeated Virginia Tech, 93-78.
