The Daily Nole — Nov. 18, 2016: FSU Soccer Faces Utah

We’re one day away from Florida State and Syracuse, Seminole fans, but it is a big Friday in FSU athletics with four different events. The Daily Nole will keep you updated on all you need to know. The news and notes section of this post will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Florida State soccer’s run at a fifth straight College Cup appearance will resume Friday as the Seminoles take on Utah. FSU won the ACC Tournament before running roughshod over Samford in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Seminoles will now take to Los Angeles to face a Utah team that sits at 12-3-5 on the year.

Hailey Skolmoski leads the Utes with 13 goals this season while goalkeepers July Mathias and Carly Nelson have combined for 10 shutouts. FSU’s Cassie Miller has 13 shutouts this year. Sophomore Megan Connolly and freshman Deyna Castellanos have each scored seven goals for FSU this season.

Utah advanced by beating Texas Tech 1-0 in overtime while FSU scored a season-high four goals in a shutout of Samford. Friday’s match will begin at 2 p.m. EST and can be seen on the Pac-12 Network.

Between the Lines

Behind 20 points from Shakayla Thomas, FSU’s women’s basketball team dominated Jacksonville, 90-47 on Thursday.

On the Agenda

In addition to soccer, the FSU swimming and diving teams will be in Indianapolis for the IUPUI Diving Invite. The FSU volleyball team will visit Duke at 6:30 p.m. EST and the FSU men’s basketball team will host Winthrop in the NIT Season Tip-Off at 7 p.m. EST. Both of those contests will air on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

Syracuse quarterback Eric Dungey is listed as doubtful for Saturday’s game against FSU.

FSU’s soccer season came to an end Friday with a 2-1 loss to Utah. The Utes scored the winning goal in the 87th minute.

FSU men’s basketball improved to 3-0 with a 100-86 win over Winthrop in the NIT Season Tip-Off. Michael Ojo paced the Seminoles with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
