One of the nation’s top 10 prospects and the country’s No. 2 linebacker for 2017 unveiled his top 6 schools on Friday night and FSU made the cut.

Baron Browning, a 6-3, 230-pound outside linebacker out of Kennedale, Texas, narrowed his list of schools down to FSU, Ohio State, Michigan, TCU, Alabama and UCLA. Browning is a 5-star prospect and the ninth ranked overall prospect in the country for 2017, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

The Seminoles currently have the No. 8 overall class for 2017. They also have two linebackers committed, but both of those are 3-star prospects.

Between the Lines

FSU soccer’s season ended in the NCAA Tournament’s round of 32 Friday with a 2-1 loss to Utah on Friday. The FSU swimming and diving team participated in the IUPUI Invite in Indianapolis.

FSU volleyball defeated Duke, 20-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-20 in Durham on Friday night. Katie Horton finished with 18 digs and 18 kills to lead the Seminoles. Behind the first career double-double for center Michael Ojo, FSU men’s basketball beat Winthrop 100-86 in the NIT Season Tip-Off.

On the Agenda

Selected FSU cross country athletes will compete in the NCAA Championships in Indiana. FSU football will take on Syracuse at 3:30 p.m. EST. That contest will air on ABC regionally.

News and Notes

FSU head basketball coach Leonard Hamilton said forward Phil Cofer sprained his ankle in Friday’s win and may be held out of Sunday’s game with Detroit for cautionary reasons.

Only Champions Club tickets remain for Florida State’s regular season finale against rival Florida.

FSU football defeated Syracuse 45-14 on Saturday behind 225 yards rushing and four touchdowns from running back Dalvin Cook.
