The Daily Nole — Oct. 1, 2016: FSU Volleyball Sweeps Syracuse

It’s Saturday, Florida State fans. That obviously means that the Seminoles will back in action on the gridiron against North Carolina at Doak Campbell Stadium. That won’t be the only FSU athletic program in action however, and four others participated on Friday. The news and notes section will be updated throughout the day.

Lead Story

Among the four FSU teams in action Friday, Florida State volleyball took down Syracuse easily in straight sets, 25-17, 25-16, 25-16.

Milica Kubura and Christian Ambrose led FSU with 16 and 12 kills, respectively. Cecilie Woie led the team with 14 digs. Aliah Bowllan had 14 digs to lead the Orange.

With the win, FSU improves to 10-2 on the season and 3-0 in the ACC. The Seminoles will be back in action on Sunday against Boston College.

Between the Lines

In addition to the FSU volleyball victory, FSU women’s tennis had a strong showing at the Bedford Cup in Tampa. At the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, both Florida State’s men’s and women’s cross country teams had a day to forget. The FSU men finished 15th out of 25 teams while the women didn’t fare much better at 14th. The swimming and diving teams also kicked off the year with the Garnet and Gold meet.

On the Agenda

FSU football will host North Carolina at 3:30 p.m. The contest will air on ESPN.

Also in action will be the women’s tennis team, which will split the squad. Some will be continue the Bedford Cup in Tampa while others join the men’s team at the ITA All-American in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The FSU soccer team will visit Pittsburgh. That match is at 2 p.m. EST and will air on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

North Carolina defeated No. 12 Florida State on Saturday to snap the nation’s longest home winning streak. FSU rallied from 21 points down to take the lead with under a minute to play, but Nick Weiler’s 54-yard field goal as time expired allowed the Tar Heels to prevail, 37-35.
