The Daily Nole — March 10, 2018: Three Noles Claim All-American Honors at NCAA Championships

Lead Story

Three Florida State track and field athletes claimed first-team All-American honors on the first day of the NCAA Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas.

Gleneve Grange, on the women’s side, was the first to accomplish that feat on Friday by finishing eighth in the shot put. Austin Droogsma did likewise on the men’s side by finishing fourth. The other FSU athlete to earn the first-team All-American distinction was Kenneth Fisher for an eighth place finish in the long jump.

As a team, the FSU men are currently in 11th place. The women are currently in 35th place. The NCAA Championships wrap up on Saturday.

Between the Lines

In addition to the NCAA Championships, FSU men’s tennis topped Miami on Friday, 4-0. The FSU women fell to Miami, 5-2. FSU baseball defeated Wake Forest, 7-3.

On the Agenda

In addition to track and field, FSU beach volleyball will be in Manhattan Beach on Saturday to take on Pepperdine and Hawaii. FSU softball will play a doubleheader at North Florida. FSU baseball plays Wake Forest in a doubleheader with the first game beginning at 2 p.m. EST on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

D.J. Poteet hit a 2-run walk-off home run to lead Wake Forest past FSU in the first game of a doubleheader, 4-3.

FSU dropped the second game of a doubleheader to Wake Forest on Saturday night, 8-1.

Virginia and North Carolina will play for the ACC Tournament championship.

The FSU men finished 21st and the women finished 26th at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
