Wake Forest (6-9, 1-1 ACC) ended Florida State’s bid for a perfect season in walk-off fashion in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday. D.J. Poteet hit a 2-run home run off of Cobi Johnson in the bottom of the ninth to secure the 4-3 win for the Demon Deacons.

Florida State (14-1, 1-1 ACC) struck first in the third on a Mike Salvatore groundout that scored Rafael Bournigal. Wake answered right back in the fourth on a Johnny Aiello solo home run.

Both teams would tag on another run to tie it at two apiece. Florida State starter Drew Parrish was pulled after 6 2/3 innings pitched; he gave up four hits, two runs, and two walks while striking out eight batters.

The Seminoles’ offense was locked down by Wake Forest starter Colin Peluse, who tossed eight complete, only allowing four hits and two runs. He did not walk a batter and struck out six.

Rhett Aplin was able to double home Jackson Lueck for the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth, giving the Seminoles the 3-2 advantage.

Cobi Johnson came on in relief of Parrish and took his first loss of the 2018 season. Poteet’s 2-run homer came on a 0-1 count. Johnson worked just 1 2/3 innings, giving up two hits, two earned runs, one walk, and two strikeouts. He also hit one batter.

Game two is set to get underway at 5:15 p.m. EST with Austin Pollock (2-0) on the mound for the Seminoles.
