Lead Story

Former Florida State quarterback Kim Hammond passed away on Sunday at the age of 72. According to reports, Hammond was also the first full-time circuit judge in Flagler County before he retired in 2011.

During his time at FSU, Hammond passed for nearly 2,800 yards and 19 touchdowns while completing nearly 56 percent of his passes. After playing sparingly over his first three years, Hammond was a second-team All-American in 1967 under head coach Bill Peterson.

That year, Hammond led the Seminoles to a 7-2-2 finish and a No. 15 national ranking. Hammond also was responsible for all three touchdowns in a 21-16 win over Florida to close the season — the first ever for FSU in Gainesville.

Hammond went on to play in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots. Hammond is survived by wife, Jan, three children and eight grandchildren.
