The Daily Nole — Dec. 23, 2021: Milton Wins Comeback Player of Year

Florida State athletics

It’s Thursday, Florida State fans.

As you start thinking about Christmas, check out our daily rundown.

Lead Story

Florida State quarterback McKenzie Milton did not have the year he wanted to, but his story is an inspiration nonetheless.

Earlier this week, Milton was named Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year. Milton returned to the field for the first time since 2018 when he suffered a gruesome late-season injury while playing for UCF.

Many thought Milton would lose his leg and few expected him to ever play football again. Fast forward to 2021 and Milton appeared in six games and made four starts for FSU as a graduate transfer.

Milton wasn’t quite the player that finished in the top 10 of the Heisman Trophy voting at UCF, but did pass for 775 yards, three touchdowns and six interceptions for FSU this season. He will play his final collegiate game on UCF’s campus for the Hula Bowl on Jan. 15.
