The Daily Nole — Dec. 2, 2021: FSU’s Johnson Wins ACC Defensive Player of the Year

Lead Story

It wasn’t a great year for Florida State football, but for defensive end Jermaine Johnson, it was a spectacular one.

On Wednesday, Johnson was recognized as the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. A transfer from Georgia, Johnson ends the regular season with ACC-bests of 11.5 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss.

Not only did Johnson lead the ACC in both categories, but he ranks sixth nationally in sacks and seventh in tackles for loss. The Seminoles wrapped up their season with a record of 5-7, following Saturday’s 24-21 loss at Florida.

There were no FSU athletic events scheduled for Wednesday.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s hoops will play at Illinois for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Thursday night. The contest begins at 8 p.m. ET and streams on Big Ten Network+.
