The Daily Nole — Oct. 16, 2021: FSU Soccer Stays Perfect, Blanks Virginia Tech

Lead Story

14 matches, 14 victories. That’s the story of No. 1 Florida State soccer’s season so far.

The Seminoles remained perfect on Friday with a 2-0 road win over Virginia Tech. FSU dominated defensively, allowing just five total shots and only one on goal.

Beata Olsson got the scoring started with her ninth goal of the year in the 31st minute. In the 70th minute, Jaelin Howell doubled the lead. Gabby Carle assisted on both goals. Yujie Zhao also added an assist.

With the win, FSU moves to 14-0 and 7-0 in ACC play. The Seminoles will visit North Carolina for an ACC Championship rematch on Thursday.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU’s soccer victory, FSU volleyball took down Virginia in straight sets on Friday. FSU cross country hosted the FSU Invite on Friday. In the pool, FSU split at Auburn. The FSU men won 153-147, but the women were defeated, 177-123.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Saturday.

News and Notes

FSU baseball will take on Jacksonville in an exhibition on Saturday.

FSU basketball’s ACC/Big Ten Challenge contest with Purdue on Nov. 30 will begin at either 7 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. ET. It will be televised on either ESPN or ESPN2.
