The Daily Nole — Sept. 23, 2021: FSU’s Milton Nominated for Orange Bowl Courage Award

Florida State athletics

It’s Thursday, Florida State fans.

As the weekend draws nearer, check out our daily rundown.

Lead Story

Regardless of what happens on the field for Florida State quarterback McKenzie Milton or the Seminoles in 2021, the redshirt senior’s presence is an inspiration.

Many thought Milton’s career was over when he suffered a gruesome leg injury for UCF late in the 2018 season. The injury in a win over South Florida nearly cost him his leg and not just his career.

After nearly three years and extensive rehab, Milton returned to the field this season at his new school — FSU. On Wednesday, Milton was named a nominee for the 2021 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award.

According to a release:

“The Courage Award was first presented by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) in 2002. A select group of writers from the FWAA vote on the winner each year. The requirements for nomination include displaying courage on or off the field, including overcoming an injury or physical handicap, preventing a disaster or living through hardship. The winner of the award will be included in festivities during Capital One Orange Bowl week and receive his trophy at an on-field presentation.”

So far this season, Milton has completed 63% of his passes for 300 yards. He has one touchdown pass and three interceptions.

Between the Lines

There were no FSU athletic events scheduled for Wednesday.

On the Agenda

FSU soccer will host Pittsburgh on Thursday night. The contest begins at 8 p.m. ET and airs on ACC Network.

News and Notes
