The Daily Nole — Sept. 24, 2021: FSU Soccer Throttles Pitt, 5-0

Lead Story

Florida State soccer wasted no time seizing control of Thursday night’s home match against Pittsburgh. The Seminoles remained perfect with a 5-0 victory.

Maria Alagoa got the scoring started for FSU with a goal less than four minutes into the match. Clara Robbins added another in the 20th minute. Before the first half was over, Gianna Mitchell scored her third goal of the season.

The second half was less than two minutes old when Kristina Lynch found the net. Mitchell added a second goal with less than three minutes remaining.

In addition to the goal, Robbins tallied two assists. Jenna Nighswonger finished with three assists in the win. FSU finished with 22 shots to just two for the Panthers.

With the victory, FSU improved to 9-0 on the season and 2-0 in ACC play. The Seminoles will hit the road on Sunday to take on Louisville.

FSU’s soccer contest was the lone scheduled athletic event for Thursday.

On the Agenda

FSU volleyball will open ACC play on Friday night at Notre Dame. The match begins at 7 p.m. ET and streams on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

FSU swimming and diving will hold its Garnet vs. Gold exhibition on Friday.

FSU has added 2,000 boosters to exceed the 12,500-mark.
