The Daily Nole — July 20, 2021: FSU’s Milton, Gainer Make Watch Lists

It’s Tuesday, Florida State fans.

Lead Story

On the first day of watch lists, a pair of Florida State players were listed as nominees.

Quarterback McKenzie Milton was named to the Maxwell Award watch list. The honor annually goes to the nation’s top all-around player. Milton has not played since 2018 when he was at UCF, but in three years, accounted for 8,000 yards passing and 92 total touchdowns.

Linebacker Amari Gainer was named to the Bednarik Award watch list, which goes to the nation’s best defensive player. A redshirt sophomore, Gainer led the Seminoles last season with 65 total tackles, including five for loss and a forced fumble.

No FSU player has ever won the Bednarik Award. Quarterback Charlie Ward is the school’s lone Maxwell Award winner. Ward earned the honor in 1993.
