The Daily Nole — March 26, 2021: FSU Track and Field Takes Three ACC Awards for Indoor Season

Before you start thinking about the weekend, check out our daily rundown.

Lead Story

The indoor season is gone and the outdoor season is underway for Florida State track and field, but three were recognized this week for their indoor efforts.

After leading the FSU women to a second ACC indoor title in four seasons, Bob Braman was named ACC Women’s Coach of the Year. It the 26th ACC Coach of the Year honor in his career.

Staying on the women’s side, Ruta Lasmane was named ACC Women’s Freshman of the Year. Lasmane won the ACC indoor title for the triple jump and earned All-American honors with a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships.

Long jumper Isaac Grimes was named ACC Indoor Performer of the Year after winning the ACC title in his event and finishing second at the NCAA Championships. Grimes’ 8.35-meter jump at the NCAA Championships was the best mark ever for a second-place finisher.

FSU began the outdoor season last weekend in Tampa and Auburn. After starting on Thursday, FSU will wrap up the FSU Relays on Friday.

In addition to the FSU Relays, FSU men’s swimming and diving resumed the NCAA Championships on Thursday.

On the Agenda

In addition to the FSU Relays, FSU swimming and diving will resume the NCAA Championships on Friday. FSU softball visits Boston College at 3 p.m. ET. FSU volleyball visits Pittsburgh at 5 p.m. ET. Both of those contests stream on ACC Network. FSU men’s tennis hosts Notre Dame on Friday. FSU baseball will host Wake Forest. That contest begins at 6 p.m. ET and streams on ACC Network Extra.

FSU track and field’s Trey Cunningham continues to hold a spot on the 2021 Bowerman Award watch list.

FSU football linebacker Emmett Rice will miss time with an undisclosed injury.
