The Daily Nole — March 25, 2021: FSU Baseball Scores Two in 10th to Top UCF, 6-5

Florida State athletics

It’s Thursday, Florida State fans.

Check out our daily rundown.

Lead Story

Florida State collected its first walk-off win of the season on Wednesday night and in bizarre fashion. After falling behind in the top of the inning, Reese Albert drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 10th to lift the Seminoles to a 6-5 victory at Dick Howser Stadium.

UCF grabbed a 5-4 lead on an error in the top of the 10th, but the Seminoles answered with two in the bottom of the inning. They did so without a hit.

After consecutive hit-by-pitches followed by a walk to start the inning, FSU catcher Matheu Nelson popped up. An infield fly rule was called, but the ball dropped and Ryan Romano came home to tie the game. Following an intentional walk to Robby Martin and a fielder’s choice, Albert walked on five pitches to end the contest.

Robby Martin got the scoring started with a 2-run double in the third inning before Pablo Ruiz tied the game for the Knights with a 2-run single in the fourth. FSU regained the lead in the fifth on back-to-back home runs from Tyler Martin and Nelson. UCF tied it with two runs in the eighth before taking its first lead in the 10th.

Tyler Martin was 3-for-4 with three runs for an FSU team that won its sixth straight game. The Seminoles will begin a 3-game home series with Wake Forest on Friday night.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU baseball’s victory, FSU men’s swimming and diving took part in the NCAA Championships.
