The Daily Nole — March 20, 2021: FSU Baseball Crushes Miami, 13-1

Lead Story

After a rough start to 2021, Florida State baseball seems to be finding its footing. FSU won its third straight game on Friday night and second straight over a rival with a 13-1 thrashing of Miami in Coral Gables.

Before the Hurricanes came to bat in the bottom of the second inning, they were in an 8-0 hole. For the second straight game, Robby Martin had a big night, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Starting pitcher Parker Messick had a big night on the mound and at the plate for FSU. Messick allowed just a run in 6.2 innings while driving in three runs with his bat.

Elijah Cabell and Logan Lacey also each drove in two runs in the win. Tyler Martin scored three times.

FSU will look to take the 3-game series when the teams meet again on Saturday night. The contest begins at 7 p.m. ET and airs on ACC Network.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU baseball’s win, Florida State swimming and diving continued the NCAA Championships on Friday. FSU track and field began the USF Bulls Invitational and Tiger Track Classic on Friday. At the FAU Beach Bash in Paradise, FSU beach volleyball beat Stetson 4-1 and Florida Gulf Coast, 5-0. In tennis, the FSU women beat Louisville 4-1 while the men fell to UCF, 4-3.

On the Agenda

In addition to the FSU baseball contest, FSU basketball will take on UNC Greensboro in the NCAA Tournament on Saturday. That contest begins at 12:45 p.m. ET and airs on truTV. FSU track and field will continue the USF Bulls Invitational and Tiger Track Classic. FSU swimming and diving will continue the NCAA Championships. The FAU Beach Bash in Paradise for FSU beach volleyball will continue with matches against UAB and Florida Atlantic. FSU softball will be in Auburn for contests with Auburn and Kennesaw State. The Auburn contest begins at 5 p.m. ET and streams on SEC Network+. FSU volleyball will take on Louisville in Charlottesville, Va. That one starts at 2 p.m. ET and streams on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

FSU basketball coach Leonard Hamilton will receive the NABC Guardians of the Game Award for Education on April 2 during the AT&T NABC Guardians of the Game Awards Show.

FSU hoops is a 10.5-point favorite over UNC Greensboro.
