The Daily Nole — Jan. 27, 2021: FSU Women’s Tennis Opens With Win Over USF

Lead Story

After hosting the FSU Invitational over the weekend, ninth-ranked Florida State women’s tennis dominated its first head-to-head match of the season.

The Seminoles topped South Florida on Tuesday afternoon, 6-1. After taking the doubles point, FSU won five of the six singles duals. Giulia Pairone, Andrea Garcia, Nandini Das and Alice Amendola all won in straight sets.

Pairone clinched the victory for FSU with a 6-3, 6-0 win over USF’s Amelie Boy. The lone loss for the Seminoles came from Victoria Allen who lost a hard-fought 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 dual to Grace Schumacher.

With the win, FSU moves to 1-0. The Seminoles will host Old Dominion and Troy on Saturday.

Between the Lines

In addition to women’s tennis, FSU men’s golf wrapped up the Timuquana Collegiate in sixth place. FSU’s Vincent Norman did win the individual title.

On the Agenda

FSU swimming and diving will take on Tampa and North Florida on Wednesday. FSU men’s basketball hosts Miami. The contest begins at 6 p.m. ET and airs on ACC Network.

News and Notes

FSU’s Joshua Davidson was named the ACC Diver of the Week.

FSU is listed as an 11.5-point favorite over Miami.
