Florida State athletics

It’s the weekend, Florida State fans.

Before you sit down for a big of football or with the family, check out the latest in FSU athletics with our daily rundown.

Lead Story

For the seventh time in 10 years, Florida State soccer will play for the ACC Championship.

The top-seeded Seminoles accomplished the feat by easily downing No. 5 seed Duke in the ACC Tournament semifinals on Friday night, 4-0. On a day where head coach Mark Krikorian was named ACC Coach of the Year, his team had its highest scoring effort in the ACC Tournament since 2012.

Duke had opportunities and actually finished with more shots on goal than the Seminoles, but the FSU defense came up big before the Seminoles eventually started finding the net. Jody Brown scored the lone goal of the first half before Jaelin Howell, Kristina Lynch and Jenna Nighswonger all scored in the second half. Howell and Nighswonger added assists in the victory.

With the win, FSU improved to 10-0 and will now face North Carolina for the ACC Championship on Sunday. The Seminoles beat the Tar Heels in a 3-2 thriller for the ACC crown two years ago. No. 2 seed North Carolina advanced with a 2-0 win over third-seeded Virginia on Friday.

In addition to FSU’s soccer victory, FSU women’s swimming and diving topped TCU on Friday, 212-88.

On the Agenda

The FSU men’s swimming and diving team will host TCU on Saturday. FSU football will visit NC State on Saturday night. That contest begins at 7:30 p.m. ET and airs on ACC Network.
