Fun Fact Friday: FSU’s Norvell is the ACC’s Youngest Head Coach

FSU athletics

New Florida State head coach Mike Norvell’s first Early Signing Period was a successful one as the Seminoles managed to add five new commitments and move up five sports in the 247Sports Composite team rankings.

What the future holds for Norvell in Tallahassee is anyone’s guess, but for now, that future looks promising. Norvell is regarded as a great offensive mind and a ball of energy.

Entering his first season as head coach at FSU, Norvell will be the youngest head coach in the ACC at just 38 years old. The next youngest is new Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley, who will be 41 at the start of next season.

Among Power 5 head coaches, only Oklahoma’s Lincoln Riley and new Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz are younger. He’s the youngest head coaching hire for FSU since tabbing a 37-year-old Larry Jones to lead the program in 1971.

Norvell will also be the youngest current head coach at FSU in any sport. No head coach under 40 has won the ACC since Clemson’s Danny Ford in 1987.
