Your Thoughts Thursday: FSU Will Beat Louisiana-Monroe by At Least Three Scores

Florida State aims for its first win of the 2019 season on Saturday as it plays host to Louisiana-Monroe.

The Seminoles’ season opened in heartbreaking fashion as they blew an 18-point lead in a 36-31 defeat at the hand of Boise State. The Warhawks opened their season with a 31-9 victory over Grambling.

This week, we asked our social media followers which team would win Saturday’s contest at Doak Campbell Stadium. Despite a rough first week, confidence doesn’t seem to be lacking.

61 percent of the 222 people who opined have the Seminoles winning by at least 17 points. 23 percent said FSU will win the game, but by a closer margin. 16 percent are predicting an upset.

Our Take
As usual, we will go with the voters.

Florida State may have been abysmal on defense, allowing 621 yards of offense in last week’s loss to Boise State. The FSU offense, which put up its most points in a half against an FBS opponent since 2016, was held scoreless in the second half.

Despite those issues, FSU should have no problem with the Warhawks. Louisiana-Monroe may have won convincingly on the scoreboard against Grambling, but it led just 17-9 at halftime and allowed 243 yards on the ground and more than 400 yards of total offense to the Tigers.

Kaleb Evans is a pretty good quarterback, but the FSU defense will have something to prove. The FSU offense will keep it rolling for two halves this week and the Seminoles will enter ACC play feeling good about themselves. FSU 48, Louisiana-Monroe 17.
