College football is here and the fall sports season is heating up. Over the next seven days, Florida State will have some significant contests.

In this week’s installment of “What to Watch For Wednesday”, we’ll be venturing into what’s ahead for the Seminoles in the days to come. Four different FSU athletic programs will be in action, including one for the first time.

1. Florida State and Florida meet for first time this athletic year
Reigning national champion Florida State soccer dropped a pair of top-5 match-ups over the last week with losses out west at UCLA and USC. Now 2-2, the Seminoles could really use a win and there’s no team that they would rather beat than the squad coming to Tallahassee on Friday. For the first time this athletic year in any sport, FSU and Florida will meet at 7 p.m. EST on Friday.

Led by forward Deyna Castellanos, FSU will look to win its third straight over the Gators and the sixth in eight meetings. Florida is also 2-2 after also dropping contests to UCLA and USC. Florida junior Deanne Rose leads the team with three goals on the season. The contest airs on ACC Network Extra. No. 6 FSU will then remain home to host Samford on Sunday.

2. FSU volleyball heads to Fort Worth
After splitting matches with top-5 teams in North Carolina to open the season, Florida State volleyball will make its way to Fort Worth, Texas for a trio of matches on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Seminoles will take on Florida Atlantic, Colorado State and TCU, respectively. After rising to No. 22, FSU will be the only ranked team taking part in Fort Worth, but Colorado State and TCU each received votes this week. Through two matches this season, Jasmyn Martin and 2018 ACC Player of the Year, Payton Caffrey, have combined for 39 kills for the Seminoles.

3. FSU football aims to bounce back vs. Louisiana-Monroe
After blowing an 18-point lead to Boise State to open the season, Florida State will look to get its first win on Saturday as it hosts Louisiana-Monroe. While FSU was falling to Boise State, 36-31, the Warhawks took down Grambling, 31-9. Sophomore running back Jabari Johnson rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.

James Blackman led the FSU offense on Saturday with 327 yards passing and three touchdowns while running back Cam Akers eclipsed 100 yards rushing for the first time since 2017 with 116 yards and a score. Hamsah Nasirildeen led the FSU defense with 12 tackles and two forced fumbles. FSU is 2-0 all-time against Louisiana-Monroe with the last match-up back in December 2017 needing to be rescheduled for the Seminoles to become bowl-eligible. Saturday’s contest begins at 5 p.m. EST and airs on ACC Network.

4. FSU women’s golf opens season in Charleston
Although it’s technically a spring sport, Florida State women’s golf will be in action for the first time this athletic year on Sunday for the Cougar Classic in South Carolina. The Seminoles return virtually everyone from last season, headlined by ACC Freshman of the Year and ACC Co-Player of the Year, Frida Kinhult. Sophomore Beatrice Wallin and senior Amanda Doherty are two other names to know. The Cougar Classic lasts from Sunday through Tuesday.
