Florida State’s impressive secondary class gained another piece on Wednesday. 3-star cornerback Jarvis Brownlee committed to Florida State and shut down his recruitment.

Brownlee was a long-time Miami commit who pledged to the Hurricanes in early June. He plays for Miami Carol City in Opa Locka, Florida and was on the radar of the state’s Big 3 schools early in the process.

Florida State offered him in November and pushed for a visit in December. Shortly before he visited Tallahassee, Brownlee announced his decommitment from Miami.

Brownlee became coveted for his potential and his style of play. While he was just 5-foot-9 heading into the summer of 2018, Brownlee grew to 6-feet tall and 168 pounds, making him less of a risk at the next level.

What stands out when watching his tape is the physicality. Brownlee loves to jam receivers and attack the ball carrier, making him a good fit for defensive coordinator Harlon Barnett’s system.

He is currently ranked as the 54th best cornerback and the 533rd overall player according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. However, multiple staffs have him much higher on their boards. While he is not considered a guarantee at the college level, more than a few teams think he can be an All-Conference starter after time in the system.

Brownlee’s commitment leaves the Florida State class at second in the ACC and 10th nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. The Seminoles are considered the heavy favorites for one more player in the secondary: 4-star safety Raymond Woodie III. He will likely finish out the secondary class.
