Lead Story

One of the hot topic for Florida State this offseason has been the quarterback competition. Athlon Sports has picked a winner.

In a piece on the top-15 quarterback battles to watch for 2018 from Aug. 1, Athlon picks Deondre Francois, a redshirt junior, to emerge victorious over sophomore James Blackman. Francois passed for 3,350 yards and accounted for 25 total touchdowns in 2016 while being named ACC Rookie of the Year.

Francois lasted just a game last season before going down with a patella tendon injury in a loss to Alabama. As the first true freshman quarterback to start at FSU in 32 years, Blackman would pass for 2,230 yards and 19 touchdowns last season.
