FSU’s Akers, Patrick Named to Doak Walker Watch List

A pair of Florida State running backs have been named to the watch list for the award that recognizes the best player at the position.

Both sophomore Cam Akers and senior Jacques Patrick were named to the Doak Walker Award watch list on Wednesday. Akers was previously named to the Maxwell Award watch list. Patrick was named to the preseason Doak Walker Award watch list last year.

As a true freshman last season, Akers set an FSU freshman rushing record with 1,024 yards on the ground and eight total touchdowns. Patrick, a 230-pound power back, served as a solid No. 2 with 748 yards rushing on 5.6 yards per carry and seven rushing scores.

The Doak Walker Award is named after the legendary SMU back and has been given every year since 1990. No FSU player has ever won the award.
