FSU athletics

Lead Story

Florida State head coach Willie Taggart spent just one year in the Pac-12 as head man at Oregon, but hasn’t ruled out a return to the West Coast.

According to a report from the Tallahassee Democrat, the Seminoles are considering contests with USC, UCLA and Stanford. Florida State defeated USC 14-7 in the Los Angeles Coliseum in 1997 and 30-10 in Tallahassee the following year.

The lone prior meeting between Florida State and UCLA came in the 2006 Emerald Bowl with the Seminoles emerging victorious, 44-27. FSU did play at the Rose Bowl — the Bruins’ home stadium — to conclude the 2013 and 2014 seasons. Taggart served as running backs coach at Stanford from 2007-09, but the Cardinal have never faced FSU on the gridiron.
